That's right, pack your bags, we're going on an adventure.
Our pick for July's Book Club is Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island!
Treasure Island is one of those books that most people know of but haven't actually read. I'm here to say that Stevenson is such a fantastic writer that he makes you want to both wrap up in a blanket and nestle by the fire but also set off on a great voyage.
But for those of you that don't know Treasure Island, let me tell you what it's about. We meet Jim Hawkins, a teenager living in a small town who works for his parents, the innkeepers of the Admiral Benbow. Jim dreams of going to sea and hunting for treasure. But as they say, be careful what you wish for.
One night, Billy Bones, an old sailor, arrives at the Inn and all hell breaks loose, resulting in Jim and his mother fleeing the Inn with a mysterious map which could lead them all to an even more mysterious island where the infamous pirate, Captain Flint, buried his treasure.
It feels like an understatement to call Treasure Island a masterpiece. Robert Louis Stevenson (a Scottish writer) created such an iconic piece of work that its characters and places are embedded into our society.
I'm particularly excited to share Treasure Island with you. Not just because of it's wonder and adventure but because it's very dear to my heart and has inspired by own work as a writer.
